The motivation of our association’s work is simple: to strengthen volunteering in the areas of fire and rescue services. In Germany, volunteer fire brigades have a long tradition. However other countries only start to see such structures since very recently. Often equipped with very tight budgets, those institutions cannot afford new equipment.
This is where the association comes in. With decommissioned material that is still fit for use and that is generated through acquisition cycles, such as clothing which needs to be renewed by law.
Our approach is to accompany cured projects in the long term. To do this, we follow a series of steps: First of all, we want to get to know the future partner stations well to make sure that our commitment is reflected in that of the comrades. In a second step, we determine the necessary equipment. This can be protective equipment or technical apparatus. Then comes the search for the material. Here we are helped by our network of members, followers and supporters, who inform us of decommissioned or unused equipment. Next comes the transfer of the equipment. Whoever says transfer at SAFeRS also says training. After all, donations are only truly long-lasting if they are handled and cared for correctly. For this reason, we also place a lot of emphasis on regular visits to the partnering fire brigades.
